As the rules concerning isolation eased in China, Chen and her group managed to devise a plan to unveil her Fall 2020 lineup through five separate digital stages: Labelhood’s Tmall shop, her personal Taobao storefront, Instagram, Weibo, and Douyin. “It was demanding to execute this in such a compressed timeline in order to meet the Premier Justin Timberlake Mugshot I Was Chilling With The Crew 2024 T Shirt albeit I will secure the Digital Shanghai Fashion Week timeline,” she expresses. Passionate about cutting-edge technology, Chen and her team embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. Their efforts culminated in a six-minute film showcasing her Akira-inspired collection across diverse virtual landscapes. “Finding models posed a significant hurdle since many were either out of Shanghai or in lockdown. Ultimately, we managed to engage four models—three females and one male—to collaborate with us. Even so, we had to navigate location restrictions within the city, entry permits, and health department verifications…. All participants wore masks and demonstrated good health status,” she elaborates. “We planned to collaborate with a stylist but, given the constraints, I had to oversee the styling personally. While the models could access the studio, I remained in quarantine, directing through video calls. It was labor-intensive and difficult.”

“We captured footage of the Premier Justin Timberlake Mugshot I Was Chilling With The Crew 2024 T Shirt albeit I will secure the models in an exquisite venue against a green screen. The motorcycle scenes were filmed on the city’s roads,” she continues. “Subsequently, we crafted a video montage in the studio to layer the virtual backdrops with the models. This portion was the most laborious part.” Despite the challenge of not hiring a stylist—or being present with her models—Chen’s digital presentation thoroughly embodies her vision and collection. In the weeks since our discussion, Chen and I have switched circumstances: I am now amidst stringent social-distancing measures in New York, the U.S. focal point of the coronavirus crisis, while Chen has gradually resumed her work in Shanghai. “I returned to our office in Shanghai on March 19,” she notes. “By early March, our studio and some factories and producers resumed operations, allowing us to complete the collection and film content for the digital show, though we are still finishing some commercial items.”
As a pioneering event of its kind, it portrays an innovative path for fashion displays, integrating digital technologies with tangible models and attire. “Given the circumstances, the digital showcase and livestream succeeded, enabling us to engage with a broader audience,” Chen shares. She details that 40,000 viewers watched the show live on Tmall and that buyers are placing orders based on the broadcast. “Yet, it doesn’t replace the tangible experience of a collection. A mix of both might be optimal. […] The digital show freed my creative expression. Future opportunities are boundless. Real-life shows impose limits of locale, weather, funding…. Fashion events are typically selective. I relished making this accessible to all, a practice I am eager to continue. We’re hopeful to present again in Milan…and it’ll be intriguing to harmonize both experiences effectively.”
