Children make gatherings lively. They inject all the enthusiasm and dynamism that turns a Christmas gathering into something thrilling and unforgettable. An ideal Christmas event can be an enjoyable, family-oriented gathering aimed at the younger audience, while still attracting the young-at-heart adults. We’ve compiled a few suggestions to help you kickstart the preparations for your next family Christmas event. Naturally, being devoted to all things Christmas, we also have Christmas decorations to complement every idea!
While conventional adult Christmas events tend to take place in the evening, a family-friendly Christmas gathering doesn’t have to be confined to the night. The entire day is available! Organizing a morning-time Christmas event like a “pancakes and pajamas” party might be more suitable for your guests during the bustling holiday season. Kids (and parents!) could don their coziest Christmas sleepwear and indulge in Christmas pancakes adorned with various red and green toppings (mini m&m’s, red hots, Christmas sprinkles!) and a generous helping of freshly whipped cream.
If you prefer giving your guests more flexibility and don’t want to organize specific games or activities, an open house with extended hours offers a more relaxed schedule instead of gathering everyone at the same time. Simple activities like a photo station provide fantastic party favors and cherished memories. Photo stations are straightforward to assemble and numerous adorable Christmas-themed props can add a festive touch to the photos. With a cheerful volunteer, Santa could even drop by for a special appearance at the photo station.
The PJs and Pancakes event and a family-friendly Christmas open house both could feature a hot cocoa bar laden with whipped cream, sprinkles, marshmallows, and garnished with a candy cane stir stick. Cookie decorating could serve as another delightful activity for guests. A table set with unadorned Christmas-shaped sugar cookies and an abundance of colorful frostings and toppings would provide a fun and delicious activity for children. Simple, undecorated gingerbread houses could offer another enjoyable child-friendly activity, with parents appreciating the mess being at your place instead of theirs. Nothing evokes the Christmas spirit quite like a candy-covered gingerbread house to take home from a Christmas event.
As an alternative to cookie decorating, the open house or child-friendly gathering could also include a cookie exchange. Guests could be asked to bring a couple dozen cookies of any kind, and they would be arranged on a large table or counter. Before leaving, each family would be invited to grab a festive Christmas-themed plate and fill it with an assortment of different cookies than what they brought.
No event is complete without some tunes (we also carry a selection of musical Christmas decorations!). There is an endless library of family-friendly Christmas songs and carols that can play in the background, or with a few musically inclined friends, the Christmas event can transform into a full-scale sing-along. Full participation ensures maximum volume and fun. The singing can be turned into a game or competition among families to see who can name the most Christmas songs, recall the most lyrics, or create amusing twists on traditional carols. A bit of creativity can lead to a lot of joy.
Crafting Christmas memories is special, and it seems to be easier with children and friends. A family-friendly Christmas event doesn’t need to be flawless, but the love and energy behind it will create cherished memories for all attendees. Chances are your event will be louder, messier, and with much more whipped cream and frosting than an adult Christmas event could ever produce.
