Defining String Lights
We often mention them, but not every light strand is classified as string lights.
String lights, or alternatively light strings, refer to one or more sets of lights anchored to a string through an “inline” design.
This differs significantly from lights that employ retrofit/replaceable bulbs, like C9 or G50 bulbs.
Our string lights utilize a non-replaceable bulb design, preventing dirt, water, and other outdoor elements from causing burnt-out light sets. The rectifiers in our lights, which prevent flickering, are even doubly sealed to extend bulb life and maintain consistent brightness.
Another essential feature of string lights is their fixed bulb number and spacing intervals. They also sport smaller bulbs when compared to retrofit counterparts. Due to their smaller size, these bulbs emit less light, making LED light strings suitable for both outdoor and indoor use.

5mm Wide Angle Conical Lights
Favored by professional Christmas light installers globally, wide angle conical lights dominate due to their unparalleled brightness and reliability. Their concave lens design adds to their allure: when lit, these 5mm wide angle conicals resemble the old incandescent mini lights adored by many.
To achieve professional-level lighting with a nostalgic touch, choose 5mm wide angle conicals. They’re perfect for enhancing your outdoor greenery.

Fairy Lights
Last but not least, fairy lights are likely the most recognized type of light in this guide due to their frequent identification as string lights. Their string-like design earns them this name, yet fairy lights are just one of many styles within the LED string light family.
Fairy lights add charming accents to your balcony decor (click here for more inspirations), and they also sparkle in do-it-yourself setups like lights-in-a-jar. Ensure you use them in sheltered areas (like a screened porch) to protect them from the weather elements.
Bonus: Indoor LightingInstalls for Radiant Spaces
String lights are ideal for indoor illumination, which is why we’re sharing a few concepts that will transform the appearance of your rooms. We’re also providing suggested light types to ensure these installations appear their finest.
Cabinet Illumination
Enhance your kitchen with a brilliant ambiance. Illuminate the borders above, below, or even inside your kitchen cabinets. For lighting above the cabinets, neatly place the lights along the outer edges of the cabinet tops. To light underneath the cabinets, affix the string along the bottom edge closest to the wall using evenly spaced adhesive hooks. For inside the cabinets, align the lights on the shelves closest to the kitchen wall, and they can also be placed along either side of the shelving.
We recommend keeping your LED light strings away from any shelf edges near the doors to easily access items in your cabinet without tugging or dragging the string.
Want dazzling cabinets? Combine all the above decorations. Drill a hole in the rear corners at the bottom of the cabinet, and in the rear corners of the cabinet shelving. Additionally, create a hole in the front corner of the top level to make the line more accessible. Thread the light string through, and you have illuminated cabinets inside and out!
Fairy lights are perfect for this application due to their compact size and pleasant illumination level.
Ceiling Edge Lights
You’ll truly notice the difference the next time you’re in the room with this setup. It’s an installation that brings a delightful ambiance to any space. Outline the perimeter where the walls meet the ceiling with your string lights. Choose from thumbtacks, screw-in hooks, or adhesive hooks to support the string. For thumbtacks, insert them into the wall and drape the string over them.
While thumbtacks and screw-in hooks provide the most secure hold for the string, adhesive hooks are excellent if you prefer not to put holes in the walls or ceiling. Use evenly spaced tacks or hooks for a polished look. Measure the perimeter to be lit and mark the connection points with a pencil.
The indoor-friendly glow of C6 lights makes them an excellent choice for this installation.
