On Thursday evening, the Oklahoma Sooners softball team created history by achieving the first four-peat in Women’s College World Series (WCWS) history. With their 4-2 triumph over Texas, the Sooners secured their fifth consecutive WCWS title, extending their overall championship run to six.

The Sooners faced a challenging match, with Texas putting up a strong effort to halt Oklahoma’s historic streak. The Longhorns gained an early lead in the top of the first inning, but the Sooners responded with a run in the bottom half. The game remained locked until the bottom of the fourth inning when Oklahoma seized the lead for good with Haley Lee’s two-run single.
The Sooners’ pitching was formidable throughout the match, conceding only two runs across seven hits. Starter Shannon Saile claimed the victory, while Hope Trautwein finished the game, securing the save.

Oklahoma’s victory fittingly concluded a dominant season. The Sooners completed the year with a 55-3 record, achieving a flawless 23-0 in conference play. Their streaks included 29 consecutive wins against ranked teams and a 52-game overall winning streak.

Head coach Patty Gasso enjoyed a triumph as well, having now led Oklahoma to six WCWS titles during her 17-season tenure. Gasso is among the most successful coaches in college softball history, with her teams consistently ranking among the nation’s best.

The victory was celebrated by fans throughout Oklahoma. The team returned to Norman on Friday and was welcomed by thousands at the airport. They were also honored with a downtown parade in Norman on Saturday.
