Reflect on your Christmas light exhibit from last year—did it meet your expectations? When you took a step back and admired your creation from the street, were you content with it? Did it fulfill all your hopes? Or did you feel a slight sense of letdown? Perhaps, your setup was missing a final flourish to elevate it from satisfactory to spectacular.
Placing light strings along driveways, walkways, patios, and paths, for example, enhances any exterior decorating venture. But securing each light in its place, ensuring they are steady and elevated off the ground without touching it—that's a common challenge.
Unless, of course, you have the right tools for the job…
Light Stakes to the Rescue
Light stakes streamline the process of installing ground-level holiday lights, making it quick and accurate.
Each bulb is supported by an individual stake, keeping it elevated off the ground and securely in place. This ensures your lighting patterns are precise and remain intact until it's time to dismantle the decorations—unless a herd of reindeer or children disrupts the setup, or Santa has an off-target landing!
Our light stakes are designed to be discreet. The bulb attaches at the top of the stake, ensuring an unobstructed view from any angle.
Three Types of Stakes:
We offer three stake varieties:
- All-In-One Light Stake. These are the most affordable and work perfectly for many uses. They are simple to use: bend the top tab (the clip part) of the stake down 90 degrees until it locks into place, then slide the base of the bulb onto the clip. For stringer light sets (where the bulb isn't replaceable), this is the only suitable stake type. Note that in particularly cold climates, the All-In-One stakes might break due to the bendable tab. They come in lengths of 7.5″ and 15″, and can hold mini lights, C7 lights, and C9 lights.
- Universal Light Stake. This is our most popular stake, known for its durability and ease of use. It's made of high-grade plastic with no moving parts, making it suitable for any temperature extremes and ensuring longevity. Unlike the All-In-One, the Universal stake secures the bulb by threading the cord through two side-mounted tabs with the bulb cradled on the top platform. The opposing tabs prevent accidental dislodging. These stakes measure 4.6″ and hold C7 and C9 lights, compatible only with lights where the cord enters and exits the socket base (see photo).
- Universal Metal Light Stake. This is our toughest light stake, ideal for commercial setups. It employs the same cord-securing design as the Universal plastic stake but offers enhanced durability with a plastic head attached to a solid metal stake. The metal stake is extremely durable while the plastic head can be replaced if necessary. These stakes measure 15″ in length and hold C7 and C9 lights, suitable only for lights where the cord enters and exits the socket base.
Simple Yet Effective
Our light stakes are straightforward tools: attach a bulb to one end and stake the other end into the ground.
Simple.
Despite their simplicity, these stakes can significantly enhance your Christmas light display, turning a good arrangement into a breathtaking one.
- Use light stakes to outline driveways and walkways.
- Incorporate them into your landscape for yard art.
- Outline a runway for Santa's sleigh.
- Illuminate a footpath through your festive wonderland.
- Spell out holiday messages for passersby.
You get the idea. While mainly used for outlining pathways and driveways, a bit of creativity and inspiration can reveal numerous applications for these versatile tools.
Light stakes also prevent your display from being buried by the elements. They keep your lights elevated above all but the deepest snowfalls and above leaves that might otherwise cover them as they fall faster than you can rake them.
If You've Been Skipping Light Stakes…
Then you've been making the task more difficult! Using light stakes simplifies the process and removes one of the annoying issues that can take away from the joy of setting up holiday lights.
For best results, plan about 12″ to 15″ inches between each ground light. If the ground is frozen during installation, hot water at each planned stake location can make the process easier and faster.
When crafting plans for your next holiday display, aiming for an even grander exhibit than previous years, consider including light stakes in your setup. These simple and cost-effective tools can significantly elevate your Christmas display to a new level of sophistication.
