Many individuals are curious about how, as expert installers, we rapidly secure lights to brick, concrete, or stucco. These materials often present challenges and can be labor-intensive. This is where hot glue proves invaluable. Employing hot glue to affix lights to firm, unpainted surfaces is swift, convenient, and highly effective. This installation method is ideal for larger C7 or C9 bulbs.

The video below will demonstrate the fundamental supplies, tools, and methods involved in attaching Christmas lights to a solid surface using hot glue.

Materials used in this task:

  • C9 Empty Socket Light Line (12″ spacing)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Glue sticks (8″)
  • Cutting tools
  • C9 LED Bulbs
  • Slide On Vampire Plugs

Important considerations on when to avoid using hot glue:

While we highly recommend hot glue, there are scenarios where its use should be avoided. Painted surfaces typically peel off if hot glue is applied. Non-painted surfaces are preferable. Special caution is needed when using hot glue on stucco. If the stucco is solid, the glue's heat won't pose a problem; however, many contemporary stucco surfaces are thin and have a styrofoam backing, which will melt under high temperatures.

You can determine if the stucco is backed by styrofoam or solid by gently tapping on it. This will indicate whether it is safe to use hot glue. If the stucco has a styrofoam backing, it's advisable to use a low-temperature hot glue gun and a cooler melting adhesive with less holding power for easier light removal without damaging the stucco.
