Organizing a wedding can be overwhelming. There are numerous tasks to handle! However, one aspect can be effortlessly simplified: The boutonniere.
For grooms, parents, and wedding attendants, silk boutonnieres are straightforward to craft. A charming silk flower boutonniere is often more affordable than a fresh one and remains vibrant throughout the celebration.
Here is a detailed tutorial requiring:
- A selection of silk flowers
- Floral tape
- Ribbon matching your color scheme
- Cutting tools
Step 1: Select the flowers for your boutonniere. We propose a white silk rose or bud with green leaves, a smaller thematic flower like a purple waxflower, and a tiny sprig of baby’s breath.
Trim the stems to around two to four inches with your cutters.
Your boutonniere can be simplistic like figure 1 or more abundant like figure 2, determined by your preference.
Step 2: Arrange the flowers by layering them one at a time to your desired design. Usually, placing taller, slender flowers at the rear, a prominent flower in the center (such as a rose or lily), and petite pieces in front is most appealing. Finally, incorporate the leaves so they encase the outer edges like a natural bouquet.
Step 3: Firmly hold the stems together and wrap them with floral tape, progressing from the flower bases down to the ends. You can either leave the stems visible or fully wrap them with the tape.
Step 4: Decorate with a ribbon. Starting at the bottom, spiral the ribbon upwards toward the flower bases. Trim the ribbon, leaving a few inches extra. Tuck the end under the top ribbon loop beneath the flowers.
Angle cut or dovetail the ribbon end for a neat finish. Alternatively, add a small matching bow for extra detail.
To achieve a refined look and ensure the ribbon stays in place, fold about ¼ to ½-inch of the boutonniere tip behind the wrapped stems.
It’s that simple! You’ve created your customized silk flower boutonniere!
With some basic knowledge and a few supplies, you can prepare boutonnieres for your wedding party in advance, freeing up time for other last-minute arrangements.
