In December 2019, we organized a Creative Short Story contest on Commaful. For those not acquainted, Commaful is a platform where writers can publish short stories, poems, fanfiction, and other creative works. Detailed information is available on the writer’s page. The winning entries, selected from the highest-upvoted submissions, were given the opportunity to be showcased right here on All Things Christmas. I’m thrilled to present the winning entries.
Christmas Short Stories
There were numerous entries, and I read the majority of them, which showcased immense creativity. Ultimately, I couldn’t limit the winners to one, so I chose three, which are listed below.
Note: The first two entries are not entirely suitable for children, featuring mature themes.
Third Place
Christmas by Lianna_Writes
Warning: Depicts Self-Harm
via Commaful
My Thoughts: This highly-rated entry, though very dark, is beautifully composed and has a poetic quality.
Second Place
The Child that Christmas Forgot by blesseddarkness
Warning: Contains Depressing Themes
via Commaful
My Thoughts: Leading in upvotes by a significant margin, and it’s clear why – it’s an exquisitely written, if sorrowful, tale.
First Place
George and the Slow Coach by harrylogan
via Commaful
My Thoughts: After the intensity of the first two stories, this one offers a refreshing blend of anticipation, joy, and resolution. Furthermore, it stood out by including images in each section, capturing much of a child’s Christmas experience—beyond just fun and games. As Garfield famously said: “The special gifts of Christmas, that really make it great, are the Insomnia and the Anxiety kids get from having to wait…”
I hope you found these Christmas Short Stories enjoyable. To read the rest of the entries, visit the All-things-Christmas tag on Commaful.
