Crafting for the season has always been a customary activity in my spouse’s household. The children enjoy taking their creations home, making it a fantastic way to preserve mementos of this special occasion, especially since we relocated to London.

Two of the most popular crafts in the family are the adorable Pasta Angels and capsule figurines; last year, we made angels using pasta, and the previous year we created small Christmas figurines using coffee capsules.

These festive decorations are simple to create and cost-effective.

Materials Needed

To craft these angels, you require the following:

  • Assorted pasta types (more details in the steps below)
  • A white pompom for the head
  • Sesame seeds or other tiny seeds for the hair
  • A gold string
  • Adhesive
  • Gold metallic paint

We opted for gold, but feel free to select another color for your angels.

Step 1

You will begin with two types of pasta: a Wagon Wheel for the base and a Rigatoni for the torso.

Apply some adhesive to the bottom of the circular pasta and attach the torso on top. Then, affix the head to the Rigatoni.

Tip: A glue gun is recommended as it is easier to use and bonds better with pasta compared to a conventional glue stick.

Step 2

After completing the initial step, apply some adhesive to the top of the white pompom and roll it in a pot of sesame seeds.

Step 3

For this step, you will utilize three types of pasta: an Orecchiette for the cap, two ridged jumbo elbows for the arms, and a Corrolles d’Alsace for the musical instrument.

Begin by attaching the cap on top of the sesame seeds, followed by fixing one arm.

Attach the instrument before securing the second arm to ensure there is enough space between the arms.

Tip: If you can’t find Corrolles d’Alsace, feel free to use another type of tubular pasta.

Step 4

In this step, a large Farfalle will be used.

Start by attaching the gold string with adhesive to the back of the body. Then, glue the Farfalle on top of it.

Tip: Look for a variety of big Farfalle, as standard ones may not be large enough for wings. Do not worry about the color since it will be covered by paint.

After completing these four steps, your angel should resemble this.

Step 5

In the final step, spray paint the angel. Although we selected gold metallic paint, you can choose any color you like. Just ensure the string matches the tone or paint it as well.

One of the great things about this craft is the ability to create various shapes and instruments. We’ve enjoyed making several versions. If you wish to transform these into table decorations, simply omit the string.

This version is similar to the one above. The base, body, wings, arms, and head remain consistent. However, we used a Corrolles d’Alsace for the hat and a Gnochi Napoletani for the instrument.

For this angel, we utilized star-shaped pasta for the hair, a Mafalde Corte for the instrument, two Castellane for the wings, and two Galletti n°44 for the arms.

In our last example, we added Castellane pasta to the base of the angel. We replaced the instrument from the previous model with two mini penne rigate. Instead of sesame seeds, we used buckwheat seeds.

Finally, we printed and glued a wing shape to the back and added a pipe cleaner around the neck of the angel.
